HOU I-TING 侯怡亭

Born in 1979 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Hou I-Ting is a visual artist based in Taipei, Taiwan. She examines subject/object relationships in contemporary society as dominated by production and consumption systems and web culture using digital images and video art. Her early works mostly discuss and examine the human body in the rapidly changing society and explore digital images with a sewing technique. Through her works, Hou I-Ting tries to show us how digital technology and machines alter the functions of human behavior. In addition, her works often focus on women’s labor and sewing performance as cultural action. The contrast between individual expression and repetitive processes of production, and personal and collective histories, are interwoven in her practice.

Her works have been collected by Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, White Rabbit Gallery in Sydney, and Queensland Art Museum in Brisbane. Source: TKG+
